Protecting the health of your eyes as well as your vision.
In addition to helping you see your best with vision correction, Eyes First Vision Centers, located in Monmouth and Ocean Counties in New Jersey, helps protect your eye health. Our optometric physicians have the training and credentials to detect, diagnose and manage many medical eye conditions and diseases. These include cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetes-related problems. We work closely with eye surgeons before and after surgery to ensure your best treatment outcomes. We also handle the initial consultation and co-management of laser vision correction.
Your eyes are susceptible to a wide range of health threats, including injury, eye diseases and the effects of systemic disease. This is why, at Eyes First Vision Center, we provide comprehensive eyecare that includes thorough, detailed eye exams and the detection, diagnosis and management of medical eye problems, including:
Glaucoma.
Glaucoma eye disease, characterized by damage to the optic nerve, causes progressive and irreversible loss of vision. Glaucoma symptoms include blurry vision, loss of peripheral vision and the inability to adjust your eyes to darkened rooms. Although it can rob you of your eyesight, early diagnosis and glaucoma treatment can help maintain your vision for a lifetime. Glaucoma medications such as eyedrops may be prescribed.
Macular degeneration.
Macular degeneration is an age-related, slowly progressing reduction in central vision. Macular degeneration symptoms include distorted vision, “missing parts” of visible objects and difficulty seeing fine detail or reading small print. While heredity, age, environment and general health may be factors, nobody is certain of the causes. Although it is irreversible, macular degeneration treatment can help slow its progression.
Diabetic retinopathy.
Diabetes can damage the small blood vessels in the eye, causing swelling, bleeding or the growth of abnormal vessels in the retina. This is diabetic retinopathy, a diabetic eye disease that can lead to irreversible vision loss. In the early stages, you may have little or no vision loss for years. Advanced diabetic retinopathy, however, can present diabetic eye problems such as persistent blurry vision, distorted vision, blind spots or sudden onset of floaters or flashes. If you have diabetes, be sure to schedule a diabetic eye exam regularly so you can receive diabetic treatment for your eyes.
Cataracts.
Cataracts, cloudy areas in the eye’s lens, are a normal part of aging. As a result, all men and women are at risk for them, and about half of all Americans over age 65 have cataracts, so a cataracts eye exam is important. Cataracts can also be caused or accelerated by diabetes, certain medications and eye injury. The most common symptoms of cataracts are cloudy or blurry vision, colors appearing faded and increased glare from lamps or headlights.
Let us help protect the health of your eyes.
The optometric physicians at Eyes First Vision Center use innovative diagnostic equipment to identify and accurately diagnose eye diseases. Then we treat and manage them, including working closely with eye surgeons if surgery should become necessary.
